`Super-fast reading` courses, allowing students to read 100,000 words in just 5 minutes, have caused fierce controversy on the Chinese internet – right after videos of students flipping through and reading books quickly went viral.

According to the advertising information on the poster in the video, this speed reading contest is organized by a tutoring center called `Xinzhitong`.

However, a representative of this center in Beijing denied the above news and confirmed that their trademark had been used illegally.

According to SCMP’s research, many other educational centers in China have indeed posted advertisements for `super-fast reading` courses.

In the video about the super-fast reading contest posted on PearVideo on Monday, many students flipped through and read books ridiculously fast.

In addition, you only need to study 72 sessions to be able to read 100,000 words in 5 minutes!

This method is called `quantum speed reading` – based on a book by Japanese teacher Yumiko Tobitani published in 2006.

According to SCMP, tutoring centers offering this strange course have appeared in Ning Ba, Chengdu and Shanxi – all of which claim their curriculum can help students `read at quantum speeds`.

According to Beijing Youth Daily, some places like Hangzhou, Shenzhen… Provide quantum reading courses at an exorbitant price: 269,000 yuan (about 881 million VND).

However, experts in the Chinese education industry say that this method has absolutely no scientific basis.

Yuan Lanfang, an education expert at the University of Science and Technology of China, said speed reading is a real method.
