`Vietnam has become an increasingly important partner of the European Union in the EU’s Indo-Pacific strategy and the EU’s ASEAN strategic partner,` said the Chairman of the Parliamentary Delegation in charge of relations with other countries.

Over the past 2 days, Congressman Caspary has participated in meeting activities with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and other senior Vietnamese officials.

The visit is seen as an opportunity to strengthen inter-parliamentary exchanges and further discuss key issues in EU-Vietnam relations, especially around trade and investment, climate change and transition.

`The EU Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has now been in effect for three years. With the investment protection agreement (EVIPA), we hope that EU member states will soon ratify it.

Regarding the EVFTA, Congressman Caspary assessed this as a successful agreement as two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and the EU has increased steadily over time.

According to him, regarding the field of trade and investment, European investment in Vietnam is of great importance.

Mr. Caspary emphasized that the European Parliament delegation and Vietnamese National Assembly delegates yesterday had practical and effective exchanges in many fields.

`I think it is a clear sign of the parties’ common interest in other issues besides trade, such as dealing with climate change,` he said.

The European Parliament member said that, as the impact of climate change becomes clearer every day, it is important to strengthen cooperative efforts in the field of climate change to contribute to overcoming challenges.

He reiterated the EU’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Vietnam has also set a similar goal and he commented that this is an ambitious move.

During yesterday’s meeting between the parliamentary delegation headed by Mr. Caspary and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, the two sides also discussed the fields of cooperation in agriculture, forestry and fishery;
