Pixar has had a difficult, long period of 3 years since the epidemic broke out.
Elemental has great pressure: closing the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, being Pixar’s only `warhorse` on this year’s awards race.
Returning to humanization – Pixar’s inherent strength
Pixar’s obvious strength not only in Elemental but in any other previous project is the company’s way of building the world.
It’s called crowded because the Land of the Elements model is quite majestic, but still cramped and suffocated by the huge number of residents occupying every space.
However, Peter Sohn does not completely agree with that, because he is simply a child of Asia.
Right now, Peter Sohn’s creativity is at its peak, showing that he made the right choice with Pixar.
The film easily attracts young audiences because of its interesting colors, thereby easily teaching lessons about diversity, differences or the normal psychological and physiological maturation process of teenagers (easy to `pick up on`.
Another ending for Romeo and Juliet
Pixar is definitely a growing kid.
Elemental is an important milestone that shows the change back to Pixar’s original state – a sensitive teenager, but also when Pixar escapes from the previous 3 lost years to become more mature.
This detail is immediately evident in Elemental’s exploitation of Ember and Wade’s relationship as a central element.
Ember can represent the type of Asian child who loves his parents, but is under a lot of pressure to inherit the family fortune or find a `matching` husband.
Despite the Ember family’s prohibition, or the eternal differences and opposition of water and fire, the main couple Elemental still decided to walk side by side, even courageously making physical contact to prove their love.
Scoring: 3.5/5
Obviously, Elemental’s plot is quite `basic`, progressing along a regular timeline and without any shocking `twists`.
This is certainly a great sacrifice for Pixar, creating conflicting but necessary controversy.
Elemental is showing in theaters nationwide.
