A team of Chilean researchers found a living cypress tree more than 5,000 years old in the country’s Alerce Costero National Park.

According to Dr. Jonathan Barichivich, head of the research team, this method can calculate up to 80% of the growth trajectory of a tree and there is only a 20% chance that the tree is younger than calculated.

This discovery was later announced, and this ancient cypress tree was nicknamed `Gran Abuelo`, which means Great Grandfather.
